C24 Mic pre-amps worth it?

MessageAuthor

I have a question. I hear from "experts" in my area that the control 24 mic pre-amps are crap for professional recording. So if this is right, I guess I have to patch every "of the 16 lines to professional mic pre-amps like the "Avalon" everytime. Any feedback?

Hi, The c24 mic pre's are certainly not crap! for the cost of the C24 we're obviously not going to get true class A mic pre's, but i do record most of a drum kit through them and the sound is more than adequate for us "non million$$$$$$ studios" I have one decent set of Neve pre amp's that i use to front end all my important recording work! vocals/accoustic guitar/accoustic instruments/over dubs etc, i also record the kik drum and snare drum through the Neve, but the rest of the kit goes the c24 route and sounds fine! would be nice to have Avalon on every drum mic, but beggers can't be choosers. A well tuned drum kit, a good room, good mics and experimenting with mic positions are more valuable than pre amps! Go make a hit Chris
