RE: DVD+RW Question...

Unless Philips didn't supply a help file, the two formats should be discussed. They are not analogous to LP or EP. CLV stands for Constant Linear Velocity, meaning the disk rotates slower as the pickup moves toward the outer edge. Bit density remains the same from inner groove to outer. CAV means Constant Angular Velocity, the disk rotates at a constant RPM. This means the inner groove is at the highest density, bit density decreases as the pickup moves outward. Only CLV is compatible with DVD players, and is the higher density.

RE: DVD+RW Question...

HQ, SP, LP, EP, SLP, and SEP seem to be carry-overs from the VHS days. I guess it's some marketing scheme they thought would help people, but really just confuses them. It loosely corresponds to the bitrate used when encoding... IE: HQ = 1 hr ~ 9000 kbps SP = 2 HR ~ 4700 kbps LP = 3 HR ~ 3000 kbps EP = 4 HR ~ 2158 kbps SLP= 6 HR ~ 1311 kbps SEP= 8 HR ~ 887 kbps HTH, Phryday
