whats the calibration level setting in preferences

MessageAuthor

The Pro Tools preferences defaults to -18 but my entire system is calibrated at -14. what does changing this setting do? affect the metering on I/O device? the on screen meters? I mean if it's gonna default to -18 everytime, I'll just set my system back up at -18 if it makes any difference.

RE: whats the calibration level setting in preferences

Hi, The Calibration Reference Level preference sets a default calibration reference level in dB when Pro Tools is in Calibration Mode. This doesn't effect Pro Tools when you are not in Calibration Mode. You can find the details in this PDF. Thanks, Digidesign Tech Support

this is pretty cool. I have never done this in exactly this manner. I will be doing it. thanks for the tip. I imagine this process is used in the same way on 888's and pro tools 5.1. I never noticed the "calibration" function in the operations menu.
