Day 12 Roadblocks

MessageAuthor

I"m around page 70 of the Beginner Book. So far I can do most of the basics, record to guitar via mic and sounds good for starters, record bass direct...also sounds great for starters. Hooked up my interface obviously with no problems. Now, I have a PCR midi keyboard which I want to use with EZ drummer. I have it hooked up to my cpu via USB. I'm still getting no sound through my monitors when using EZD by mouseclick, only through the little speakers below the screen which I thought I had turned off. I can drag and drop the beats I choose into Reaper but then I hear nothing when I do a play back. I need to set this up properly. To summarize, I need to be able to trigger my EZD from my keyboard, or other instruments. I want to be able to hook up my PCR-M1 to my GR33 guitar synthesizer to use those sound effects, I have a midi cable handy.

arm the track, right click on the arm button and turn on monitor input then down near the buttom of the right click menu under midi input, you should be able to pick your keyboard, all channels.

I went through these steps and then a few more things. Still no sound. Note at this point I am only using the USB cable from the keyboard to my computer, should I be connectting the keyboard to my soundcard. The only changes I've had occur so far is that a metronome is playing which came from Ezdrummer drag and drop...I have no clue how but it is coming out of the monitors on playback.

Just to verify all basics are covered, here is a beginning MIDI tutorial: Does that help at all?

I started watching it. I'm going to start from scratch this weekend using this video...until I can do this properly! Thanks for the link.

RE: Day 12 Roadblocks

Yes that helped thank you. I have the sound coming out of the monitors now using the midi/kb. I still cant' hear it on my playback and I need to set the keys on the midi/kb to something I like. Right now the default setting has it set up so I don't have every drum on keyboard. Part of my original problem was that i was not using the midi cable as I thought the USB connection was doing the same job. I need that to power the keyboard still. I have other basics to work out still.
