Well, I ordered the Andy Johns set and it should be here by the end of the week. Now, in preparation, I have purchased a 500GB SATA drive and installed it in my computer. My other 2 drives are my XP drive (System) and my 1st "Audio Drive" which has all of my PTLE sessions AND my installation of BFD (original). Here's my question: Would it be best to keep my BFD/Platinum Samples data on a drive separate from my PTLE sessions to which I will be recording audio? All of this is, of course, separate from my XP system drive. Like this: drive C - XP drive D - BFD/Platinum Samples drive F - Pro Tools session folders Or can the BFD/Platinum Samples files reside on the same drive as my PTLE session folders? More options bring more questions.... Thanks, GregJ
It's best to have all BFD's data on a seperate drive, yes. I have a 300 GB drive where all my BFD data, and all my other loops/samples reside. My config is: 160 GB- OS 300 GB- Audio 300 GB- Backup 300 GB- BFD data, Loops, Samples
From the BFD FAQ... On which hard drive should I install my BFD data? FXpansion recommends, in order of performance preference (first is best): 1) A dedicated SATA or IDE internal drive, 7200rpm or above 2) A dedicated external firewire drive (do NOT chain the firewire drive with a digi002 or other firewire audio interfaces!) 3) A dedicated external USB2.0 drive 4) An internal drive shared with the data from other heavy disk-accessing programs, eg the operating system (virtual memory swap files), or another disk streaming application such as your host sequencer (audio tracks) or Kontact etc etc. --------------- Rail
All I can say is that these are the best sounding drums that I have ever had the chance to work with! Unfortunately, I don't think I will ever attempt to EQ or mix a drum kit myself again, unless it is as an exercise to try to get the same sounds that are on this set of samples. Thank you Rail! Thank you Andy! Thank you Evan! Thank you Nikki! and everyone else. I wish everybody would plop down the $$$ and hear for themselves..... By the way, Rail, the midi loops and fill are freakin' sweet.(Clever names, too! ) More of those as bonus material, please! And the claim from the website that they are ready to sit in a mix with other instruments is true. I did a session with a friend last weekend, and there was NO EQ or COMPRESSION on any of my PT faders for the drums. That saves me a LOT of CPU power for other tracks. (sweet...)- I might try a session at 96K just for the heck of it. I'm glad I bought into this product. I am surprised more people aren't raving like I am. GregJ P.S. Platinum Samples' customer support is unmatched. All my questions have been answered and all of my e-mails have been replied to. Go figure.....
Yep, but note that BFD Lite (Ignition Pack) owners qualify for a big discount on BFD, they'll save about $100 on that price.. Jay B, email me and I'll get you the info on that.
