reaper states?

MessageAuthor

reaper is very customizable to suit everyone's style and needs, but i find myself having different styles and needs. the loop like ableton thread put me over the edge to wanting this. i mean, sometimes i wanna record loop like ableton. sometimes i just wanna record some guitar. sometimes i wanna jam with a song i have, or learn a song i have. sometimes i wanna make a full track, and mix it. so, i'm wondering. is there maybe a way to get reaper in different states? like have my own versions of reaper. so i'd have one version of reaper setup with all my easy access buttons to do one thing, and another version to do other things, and in one version i have my options set one way, and in another another way. maybe even have different skin from state to state? is there a way to be able to enter different "versions" of reaper? different sort of saved states? and if so, is it possible to be within a project, and switch from state to state? and if not, then i think that might be a cool feature.

A work-around for what you are asking for would be to install multiple Reapers all as portable installs and customize each one for whatever you need. Then they don't share settings.

The red states are reaper states On a serious note, I'm note quite sure I follow. I feel at home doing those w/o needing various "states".

Have you tried experimenting with Preferences/General/ ... import/export configurations?

RE: reaper states?

could this be used in making a kind of "easy button" learners state?

^ Not a specific configuration file afaik, but there's an action to open your OS file selector dialog. Doesn't seem to be a way (or a straight forward way) of doing so via ReaScript either. Probably FR time ...

hgere's another question, for which i assume the answer is no, but, if you make a track template, does it remember a separate configuration? i would think not, since that would not be very templatish, but having the option to do so, would be cool as well. me, on windows 7 i right click my reaper on taskbar, and i can choose templates for what i'm about to do, if they loaded up new configurations at the same time, that would be cool.
