Question...

I've read a bit about this, but I can't find a specific answer. SITUATION: I have formatted my firewire drive, per Rail's advice using FAT32 formatting. (It works great on both PC and Mac.) However...... On my friends Mac he gets a DAE -51 error when trying to open my session. So..... We've been able to get around that by consolidating my tracks so that he can open them one by one. But... It would be great if he could simply open my sessions directly! QUESTION: I thought "forced compatibility" meant that both platforms would RECOGNIZE any session. IS THAT WRONG???? (Yes or no.) thnx, dave

try not running the session off of the firewire drive, instead have him move it to his own audio drive. I'm not real sure that would help but it seems like it might

So Rail, You're saying the "enforce MAC/PC compatability" does indeed work, and if done right it will not give a DAE 51 error. Correct?

Double check your setup here: And here, see FAQ #27: Lastly, input "-51" into the Answerbase search. There are several articles there. Good luck.

Checked the answer database and this was all it said: "In one case, the user was opening a session on a Phantom Firewire drive that was not formatted using Apple's Drive Setup utility. Reformatting the Firewire drive resolved the issue." Reformatting the drive is *not* an option. It *must* be FAT32 so it can be read by both PC and Mac. A -51 error is a Mac OS File System Error (Refnum error). It appears as if you may have a corrupt audio file.. or perhaps the session is looking for a file which isn't on the drive..??
